ABOUT SHARP & FINE
Sharp & Fine is a San Francisco-based contemporary dance company co-founded in 2011 by sisters Megan and Shannon Kurashige to facilitate choreographic work that grows out of a shared history of experience in both classical ballet and contemporary dance and a desire for deep collaboration with artists from different disciplines.
We create narrative performance work that brings together physically exuberant choreography, emotionally nuanced text, live music, and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Our work is informed by the technical rigor of classical ballet, the human intensity of contemporary forms, and the conviction that telling a story built on personal truths is a powerful and communal act of communication and empathy.
S&F has premiered eight evening-length works at Z Space and ODC Theater and shorter works at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Theater of Yugen, and Counterpulse, and has been commissioned by the US/Japan Cultural Trade Network, Soundwave, and the Merde Project. S&F was a resident company at the SF Conservatory of Dance from 2012-2018 and an artist-in-residence at Berkeley Ballet Theater and the Dresher Ensemble Studio in 2019-2020. The company's work has been presented by the RAWdance CONCEPT series, SFCD Summer Dance Series, and LEVYdance Salon. S&F has received support from CA$H, Zellerbach Family Foundation, ODC Theater, Rainin Opportunity Fund, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and Lighting Artists in Dance Award.
